An electrical device for a wind turbine comprising a base frame arranged to be supported on an underside, a cabinet for an electrical apparatus mounted onto an upper side of the base frame, and a barrier foil for preventing ingress of moisture into the cabinet. and a method of handling the device during manufacturing of a wind turbine. 5
Wind turbines normally comprise a rotor with blades and arranged to rotate by wind energy.

In a traditional horizontal axis wind turbines, energy generation takes placed on top of the 10
vertical tower, and the connection to the grid takes place in a switchgear which is typically
arranged at the base of the tower carried by the foundation of the wind turbine.
The installation process is often lengthy and different components are often left at the
construction side for several weeks or month before they are finally integrated in the wind
turbine. Various electronic devices, e.g. the switchgear etc. is often delivered well before the 15
construction of the tower such that it can be placed on the foundation and integrated into the
tower. In this stage of the construction process, the wind turbine to be constructed does not
yet form shelter for protection against dust, sun, or rain, and sensitive electronic devices,
such as the switchgear, is thoroughly packed in protective packaging.
Hitherto such components have been enclosed on the outside with a protective packaging 20
when delivered from the supplier. At the construction site the packaging have been opened to
install power cables and then resealed to re-establish the protective packaging. The sealing
capability of the protective packaging against ingress of moisture is unreliable hereafter, and
failures due to corrosion of contacts etc. are often experienced.

It is an object to provide an electrical device for a wind turbine, a packaging for the device,
and a method of handling the device during installation of a wind turbine to reduce the
complications of handling a sensitive component which is to be protected and yet accessible
for the assembly process.
According to this and other objects, an electrical device is provided which comprises:
- a base frame, wherein the base frame is arranged to be supported on an underside,
- a cabinet for an electrical apparatus, wherein the cabinet is mounted onto an upper side of 5
the base frame, and
- a barrier foil for preventing ingress of moisture into the cabinet, wherein the barrier foil is
arranged to encapsulate the cabinet and extend between the cabinet and the upper side of
the base frame.
Since the barrier foil extends between the cabinet and the upper side of the base frame, the 10
underside and a space between the under side and the upper side can be accessed without
having to unpack the cabinet and thus expose the sensitive electrical apparatus.
