Abstract

The invention puts forward a cabinet LOTO locking device. The cabinet LOTO locking device comprises a solid aluminum plate having an attachment portion, two magnets for attaching to a cabinet door, and two connecting devices. The attachment portion can include one or more attachment points for accepting one or more LOTO tags. Alternatively, the attachment portion can include a slot, and the cabinet LOTO locking device can accept a physical LOTO by adding a lock assembly. The lock assembly comprises a hook, an adjustment screw, a traveler, and a lock loop. The hook fits through the slot of the solid aluminum plate by adjusting the adjustment screw, and the traveler tightens against the solid aluminum plate to put tension on the hook, the lock loop of the lock assembly can accept the physical LOTO. Each connecting device at least comprises a wingnut, a screw, a lock washer and a backing nut. The solid aluminum plate has two openings for allowing the screws to pass through and each of the two magnets has a screw hole therein. The solid aluminum plate is connected to the two magnets via the two screws, and are fixed by the wingnuts, the lock washers, and the backing nuts set on the screws. The total pull force generated by the two magnets that attaches to the cabinet door is 130 lbs. The heights of the solid aluminum plate on the magnets may be adjusted by turning the backing nuts to fit over varying cabinet handle heights. The cabinet LOTO locking device is in conformity with the OSHA regulations and helps to provide a safer working condition for technicians in the field.

CABINET LOTO LOCKING DEVICE

BACKGROUND

The invention relates generally to a cabinet LOTO (Lockout-Tagout) locking device, and more particularly to a cabinet LOTO locking device on a cabinet door of an old wind turbine.

Due to a safety requirement and OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) standard, a LOTO should be applied on the cabinet door. However, the cabinet doors of some old wind turbines can’t accept the LOTO. In the art, for solving the problems, there are several solutions: solution 1) all cabinet doors of the affected wind turbines are retrofitted to accept the LOTO; solution 2) a “tag only” method is used to perform the LOTO. However, solution 1) is costly and solution 2) is easy to come off and unintentionally violated.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The invention proposes a cabinet LOTO locking device on a cabinet door of an old wind turbine. The cabinet LOTO locking device comprises a solid aluminum plate having an attachment portion and two openings, two magnets, and two connecting devices. The solid aluminum plate is attached to the two magnets by the two connecting devices. The size of the solid aluminum plate is shown in Figs. 1 and 2. In one embodiment, as shown in Fig. 1, the attachment portion of the solid aluminum plate includes three attachment points. The attachment points can accept up to three LOTO tags. The number of the attachment points may vary according to the requirements. In another embodiment, as shown in Fig. 2, the attachment portion of the solid aluminum plate includes a slot. By attaching a lock assembly onto the slot of the solid aluminum plate, the cabinet LOTO locking device of the present invention can accept a physical LOTO instead of just LOTO tags. The lock assembly comprises a hook, an adjustment screw, a traveler, and a lock

loop. The hook fits through the slot of the solid aluminum plate by adjusting the adjustment screw, and the traveler tightens against the solid aluminum plate to put tension on the hook, the lock loop of the lock assembly can accept the physical LOTO. Each of the two connecting devices at least comprises a wingnut, a screw, a lock washer and a backing nut. The size of each opening can allow the screw to pass through. The pull force generated by one magnet that attaches to the cabinet door is 65 lbs and the total pull force generated by the two magnets that attaches to the cabinet door is 130 lbs. Each of the two magnets has a screw hole therein.
