Abstract

In large organisations there could be users who would do just the most necessary analysis and leave a large part of curiosity based analysis. We devise and describe a method that will help organisations monitor and then act on the analysis coverage done by its analysts. The method uses colors to track the analytical coverage of an OLAP model and highlights the area which were left out from the analysis so that actions could be taken by analysts and organization..

Description

When an analytics model is created in OLAP there are many valuable information stored in the

form of attributes or dimensions. The Analysis is typically done using some form of Control chart

like a bar, pie, line or hybrid charts. The reports are typically pre created to provide certain

information which the SME of the business feels is important to them.

While the users have the capability to perform adhoc analysis on the data with the onset of self

service BI, the analysis done is only limited to the knowledge the SME has about the data. On

all occasions , many aspect of business is ignored for analysis and considered as not important.

A method and system is proposed which captures the elements of a dimension and its attributes

in a cube that has been queried upon through a user interface. When a user queries the OLAP

data , it is done using a MDX query. When...
