Abstract

Currently controlling moisture in air path of a sidestream CO2 sensor is achieved by using Nafion tube in the air path. Due to Nafion (PermaPure brand) characteristics of balancing humidity with the surrounding atmosphere conditions, in situations where the conditions are high humid environment the air sample that are tested are likely be moist with high chances of condensation. It is observed that the sample exiting the Nafion tube has humidity of + 5% of environmental conditions. This observation was captured during recent experimental data. This invention overcomes the limitation of the current design by incorporating an external heating element on the outer diameter of the air tube post Nafion assembly. This design enables usage of heat to remove moisture in sample that could benefit achieving accuracy in measurements, no slug formation in filters, and continuous monitoring of patients for longer times.

Detailed description of the invention

As seen below in the picture the limitation of Nafion based dehumidifying tubing assembly can be resolved by adding a Watlow Polyimide Flexible heater at the end of the tubing. This will provide added advantage of reducing any moisture in the air or removing the water slug that could condensate at dew point with a relatively low pressure. This can also reduce expensive Nafion tubing length. This assembly can be manufactured without any large changes to the assembly procedure.
