Abstract

In today's PCB, there are more and more components. In automotive field of application for instance there are also more and more antennas for communication purposes. Such a complex configuration leads to the increase of the need of shielding pieces, especially for EMI protection. The problem that is faced is the lack of available room and space, but also the problem of cost saving in order to provide multi antennas devices at low price. The innovation consists in using the shielding part as an antenna in order to save space and to reduce costs.

STATE OF THE ART

In today’s PCB, there are more and more components. In automotive application for instance there are also more and more antennas for communication purposes. Such a complex configuration leads to the increase of the need of shielding pieces, especially for EMI protection.

Shielding part

The problem that is faced is the lack of available room and space, but also the problem of cost saving in order to provide multi antennas devices at low price.

INNOVATION

The innovation consists in using the shielding part as an antenna in order to save space and to reduce costs. In the following example, the shielding part incorporates two antennas (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) The shielding part is solid with two slots. Each slot has a length of λ/4 of 5 GHz and the shielding part, acting as an antenna, has a nominal length of λ/4 of 2.4 GHz. One single slot is also possible.
