Abstract: Vehicles moving on a track (train, tram etc.) are very popular mode of transportation for a long time – both for people and goods. With each passing day adoption of these kind of transportation are increasing as network becomes bigger and faster. With ever increasing traffic, there is extra need for avoiding accidents and resulting loss of lives and assets. At the time, capabilities of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV or Drone) are increasing in terms of capabilities and efficiency. Drones can fly longer, faster and can carry multitude of technology. In this publication we are proposing a system to deploy an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV or Drone) providing safety to vehicles moving on a track.

Background: Vehicles moving on a track (rail) i.e. train etc. has limited visibility in terms of track condition ahead. Visibility could be limited due to many factors like

 Poor weather condition

 Physical topology of the land (elevation)

 Twisting and turning track

There could be damages to the track due to many reasons as such:

 Mechanical fault or fatigue

 Damages due to natural cause like flood & landslide

 Sabotage or terrorism

All these problems are being addressed by various methods like manual surveillance, aerial surveillance with both manned and unmanned aerial vehicle, putting sensors along the track etc. – each of the above method has certain limitations.

In this disclosure, a new system is proposed for deployment of UAV which would work a leading surveillance object for track safety which would notify or act to stop the train in case of problem detected.

This invention is about a warning system for people working on a track when a train is approaching them. This is completely different than the current disclosure where a train mounted and initiated UAV monitoring a track ahead in a real time by a required distance.
