INFLATABLE BARRIERS FOR HYDRAULIC SYSTEM TESTS

Hydraulic systems tests on wings take place as part of the critical path of wing production. No other activities can

be performed while the test is running.

The invention is to design bespoke inflatable barriers to work on the Leading Edge while the wing is being tested

by isolation of the Hydraulic testing area.

There are two types of tests:

• Hydraulic testing, commonly known as ‘Flushing’ test, where the integrity of the hydraulic system is

checked, after joining the pipes. Potential leaks are identified and the pipes are also cleaned of any swarf.

• Functional test. This ensures integrity of all the hydraulic systems and the operation of the flight controls.

It also allows rigging of some of the movables.

Disadvantages:

• No other activities can be performed while the test is running

• Both operations are in the critical pathof wing manufacturing

OBJECT AND ADVANTAGE

By carrying out the invention, 9.3 hours cycle time can be saved.

Hence, the invention is to design bespoke inflatable barriers/ fences to work on the Leading Edge while the wing is

being tested by isolation of the Hydraulic testing area.

• Technical means:

The idea is to create safety barriers were the operators can work on the Leading Edge of the wing while the pipe

line (inside the wingbox and in the Trailing Edge) is hydraulically tested.
