Current analytics for social media can determine topic popularity, information spread statistics, viral spread, and importance. Users have the ability to vote and rank posts to show like or dislike. Currently, the community voting does not always impact some of the other analytics, and most of these metrics are found in charts and graphs on dedicated websites and apps.

The novel contribution is a method and system to aggregate social media analytics and community votes into a system that easily displays post or topic importance. This information is useful for individuals and businesses in determining the value of certain trends, topics, people, and posts, as it includes publicly visible and adjustable weights.

The novel system allows users to mark a topic (currently assigned as a hashtag) as 'important' or 'trending' by using a method such as a double-hashtag (##).
