1. INTRODUCTION

O-ring is used in vast applications like leak sealing, hydraulic testing's, and etc. Also in any one product, hundreds of O-rings will be used, and similar case with its product testing cell equipment too. Installation of O-ring is the one of the critical part in any product.

2. BACKGROUND/ PROBLEM

Internal O-ring installation is the major pain area in assembling different machines. Currently in majority of assemblies O-ring installation is done manually. A simple tool for installation of multiple internal O- rings will help to minimize manual efforts.

3. PROPOSED DESIGN/ SOLUTION

3.1 Construction details:

Multi O-ring internal installation tool consists main elements like O-ring retainer body, Dovetail puller, Cam body, cam followers, outer body, cam controlling handle, and linkage bar /handle, and few accessories like compression spring, grub screw, knob, dowels and spring lock pin.

Here the O-ring retainer body is having a groove to position the out body at desired point and to fix its position with help of grub screw. It acts as a resting surface on product assembly. Inside the body it’s constructed like dovetail puller will be connected to linkage bar/handle with help of dowel. This dovetail puller will slide in O-ring retainer body groove, and its slide fitted. At another end of linkage bar/handle, there is a compression spring to have puller in and out by hand force. This linkage bar/handle is having a through hole to catch the spring pin nose point when O-rings got stretched with help of dovetail puller, and release O-rings on to the assembly.

Besides, there is a one cam, and three cam followers connected to a slide fit handle with the help of socket head cap screw. Between cam and O-ring retainer body there are three compression springs arranged to make sure these are in idle condition. These cam followers are arranged 120 degree apart on O-ring retainer body. These cam followers are designed such a way that, it will have transverse movement in and out when operator intervention will be there. This is how this Multi O-ring, internal installation tool is constructed.

3.2 How it works

Operators takes O-rings and places on O-ring retainer body. At this stage O-rings will have sag, and fit on O-ring retainer body. Then with the help of dovetail puller, these two O-rings will be pulled in side and stretched O-ring retainer body groove. At the same time, with respect to pulling force on O-rings, the connected linkage bar will move inside by compressing the compression spring which is inside the body.
