MULTI OR SINGLE TACTILE SWITCH By Andrzej Guzik and Ray Haffer
This article describes a novel alternative method of designing the tactile switch with integral elec- trical connection lug and incorporated actuator.
The general purpose of this alternative approach is to develop a new tactile switch in place of the conventional one which features the following greatly improved characteristics:
(1) The switch Is extremely tolerant for abusive environments, while retaining its monostable function, by means of two stage cooperating geometry of a monolithic tactile contactor.
(2) The switch assembly provides a simple and reliable direct substrate mounting means. This is achiev- ed by featuring the monolithic tactile contactor with an integral electrical lug, which is funtionally isolated from the tactile area.
(3) The switch provides synchronization when tactile feedback is heard and electrical contact is made. This characteristic is achieved by accurate location of the actuator with relation to the center of the two stage geometry monollthlc tactlle contactor. This process is possible by means of mounting features in the contactor and mating actuator.
As shown In Figure 1, the tactlle switch contains a plastic actuator (1) provided with living hinge (2) and plurality of the director energies (3) for receiving a monolithic tactile contactor (4) with its integral electrical lug (5), Insulator (6) with openin...
