TELEPOINT AS AN ENHANCEMENT TO RESERVATION SYSTEMS
by Morris Anthony Moore
In the very near future, telepoint systems such as the CT-2 system going into service in the U.K. and DECT system under development in Europe will be wide spread. Assume for now that most people will carry personal communicators with them everywhere and that while these devices will probably be used as cordless home and office phones, they also will be telepoint capable. From this environment and infrastructure will emerge many new applications. One such application is described here.
Figure 1 is a diagram showing the general context of the system. One requirement for this application (and many others) is autoregistration of the personal communicators with telepoint bases. This is desirable anyway, since it allows the landline system to direct calls to the user when the user is reachable by the system, much like it would in residential or office environments. In this context, it allows the telepoint site to communicate a list of users who are nearby (within its limited range) to attached computer equipment.
