Abstract
In the current Trunked Radio Communication System (Smartnet), radio units are logically placed together within a group. These units communicate with each other by making calls that all members in the group can receive. Often radio units are grouped together within the same group so that a central per- son, such as a dispatcher, can reach all members of the group through one transmission. All radio members within the group are, therefore, forced to listen to the transmission of all members within that group of radio units, even if that transmission is of no interest to the radio user.

TEMPORARY BYPASS OF GROUP ACTIVITY FROM NUISANCE MEMBERS
by Herbert Wolf and Daniel McDonald
In the current Trunked Radio Communication System (Smartnet), radio units are logically placed together within a group. These units communicate with each other by making calls that all members in the group can receive. Often radio units are grouped together within the same group so that a central per- son, such as a dispatcher, can reach all members of the group through one transmission. All radio members within the group are, therefore, forced to listen to the transmission of all members within that group of radio units, even if that transmission is of no interest to the radio user.
This invention provides the radio user with the ability to selectively stop listening to a particular transmission in its selected user group. When a radio user determines that it does not wish to listen to a par- ticular transmission from a fellow group member, it indicates this to the radio unit. The radio unit then stores the transmitting unit's ID information, leaves the voice channel so that it no longer receives the transmission, and returns to the traffic (control) chan- nel to monitor system activity. The radio unit will not return to the voice channel until a transmission from a
different group member occurs. If the user desires, the ID information of those group members that this radio user does not wish to listen to can b...
