Abstract
A novel approach of incorporating scrim in an adhesive matrix is used to maintain differential release properties. The combination of adhesive and scrim provides the necessary release differential for low surface energy adhesives such as silicone adhesives. The examples described show 50 to 75% improvement over standard constructions.

Silicone Adhesive Transfer Tape
           A

Silicone Adhesive Transfer Tape
           Silicone
based, such as fluorosilicone based, low surface energy (LSE) liners are widely
used as release liners with acrylic, rubber-based and other types of adhesive
tapes since they exhibit good differential release properties. However, the same silicone or other LSE
liners are not very effective as release liners for silicone adhesive tapes
since the necessary differential release no longer occurs.
           To
overcome this difficulty, a novel approach of incorporating a single layer or
multiple layers of scrim, such as woven scrim, non-woven scrim, conductive
scrim, non- conductive scrim, or combination of particles and scrim, in the
adhesive matrix is employed. The
combination of adhesive and scrim provides the necessary release differential
to be effective against low surface energy adhesives such as silicone
adhesives. The employment of the scrim
not only assists in the release of the LSE liner from a silicone adhesive-liner
interface but also provides dimensional stability to the silicone adhesive when...
