Display of actual download time of a page when showing the pulldown menu of a FORWARD/BACK button on a web browser This disclosure is to propose an improvement to the web browser interface which would help users in deciding whether how to traverse previously visited web sites according to the historical performance of a web page. Not all web pages are created equal. While the user has a known connection speed for retrieving web pages from the internet, they other parts of the performance equation is made up of the speed of the web server and its connection to the internet. Thus, a user might have a high-speed T1 connection to the internet, but they may be asking for web pages from a web server connected to the internet with a 28.8 KB/sec modem. A user might wish to avoid getting caught trying to download a page, again, from the same slow web source so they would like to know that the previously visited link should be avoided. A method is proposed where, as a page is being downloaded, it is timed. This download time is kept in local memory, as is the visit history of the user while using the web browser. The disclosure is that when the user uses the "Back" and "Forward" button to skip to previously visited web locations, to the side or below the link in question, a time value showing how many seconds it took for the user download a page last time should be displayed. Thus, the user can see that a link they were thinking about going back to visit took 60 seconds to download which represents a very slow link not worth visiting, if the user is impatient. In addition to tracking the last visit to a web site (in the running real-time history), the disclosure allows the user to keep a running average of the transfer times in the personal bookmarks of the users web browser. Thus, if a web site improves or degrades its web servers over a period of time, this will be tracked and displayed by the bookmark history of the user.
