Adding Personal Administration Activities in a Voice Activated Directory Assistance System

Directory Assistance Systems based on speech recognition are a popular solution today to directory assistance problems. More and more features are being integrated to the directory assistance systems to allow the subscriber (person who has his/her name in the names database of the directory assistance system) to configure the system according to his/her personal preferences and necessities. Disclosed is a system to integrate personal administration activities into a Voice Activated Directory Assistance System. The "Personalized Recording of Names" personal administration activity will be used in this publication to exemplify how the solution works. However, the disclosure is not restricted to the example described here. The "Personalized Recording of Names" feature allows a subscriber to record his/her own name, such as in a voice mail. This recorded name is then used by the system in the play back messages. The disclosure provides a solution where a caller (a caller can be a subscriber or not) calls a unique telephone number from a standard telephone set and, without choosing from a menu, is able to: Access the company directory of names Perform administration activities if he/she is a subscriber, such as record his/her name Access other features such as the personal speed dial list Disclosed is a speech recognition grammar which contains a control word (for instance, Admin) to select the administration branch of the directory assistance call flow.
