Abstract

This system builds the Telephone Directory Database on the Internet , and lets an existing telephone system shift to IP telephone system smoothly. The telephone directory database converts a telephone number to an IP address. Most of personal computers are connected to the Internet. A flat-rate and full-time connection such as an ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line), CATV (Cable TV), and FTTH (Fiber To The Home) is beginning to spread explosively. These services provide high-speed communication and do not ask for per-minute charge . On the other hand, in general, an existing telephone system asks for the charge according to telephone call time and distance. This system adds a flat-rate and full-time Internet access function such as an ADSL modem to an existing telephone. This telephone is called Internet Hybrid Telephone .A personal computer program can also emulate this function (called Internet Hybrid Telephone Emulator). Because of high-speed and wide bandwidth, the Internet Hybrid Telephone (Emulator) can send and receive a picture (FAX), video animation and other data in addition to voice communication. A user dials with using the Internet Hybrid Telephone ordinarily. If the destination of a call has also the Internet Hybrid Telephone or its emulator software, communication will be established by the IP connection without using a public telephone line.
