Disclosed is a method of using symbolic substitution on the Z/OS and OS/390 slip command to capture diagnostic data and simplfy the setting of slip traps. Slip code would be modifyed so that during syntax validation a table of symbols would be referenced and symbolic substitution would take place. The contents of this table would be provided by the various components on the Z/OS or OS/390 platform. This change would simplyfy Setting slip traps to capture diagnostic data related to problems by eliminating the need to chain thru several control blcoks to reach the control block of interest... For instance to get to the OMVS CVT it is neccessay to index to it thru the CVT and ECVT. Thus, the chain becomes 10?+8C?+F0?.... just to get to the OMVS OCVT. With the symbolic substitution disclosed herein a slip that included OCVT+24C,NE,0 would at syntax checking time have 10?+8C?+F0?+24C,NE,0 substitutued. 1
