Abstract

Disclosed is a ceramic coil stiffener design for HDD actuator. The effectivenesses of this ceramic stiffener are as follows : Heat radiation w/ higher thermal conductive ceramic material Electrical insulation to prevent vortex current Lighter Actuator coil is desired to have stiffer coil to achieve higher butterfly mode frequency, but simultaneously to be lighter. By using ceramic material for coil stiffener and by winding the coil wire directly onto the coil stiffener, coil will be much stiffer without becoming heavier. The ceramic material used for this should have higher electrical resistance to prevent vortex current, which causes back EMF in coil. And by adopting higher thermal conductive ceramic material, it will provide higher heat radiation.
