Memory Character Register Access Method

The system to use various memories and if the system detects memory characteristics at power on phase , the system access method and operation can be optimized to the memory characteristics. This proposal is to set the registers in the memory which describes the memory haracteristics and show the register access method which parameter utilization enables different memory accessing by reading the special area which includes the memory characteristics for the system to optimize the access timing and sequence. After power on, the memory controller will read predefined area multiple times, like 100 times. Then the memory detects this is the request to the mode change to the special one. If there are write operation or read operation to the different address during 100 times accessing , then the memory detects there is no mode switch requested and go to the normal operation. Figure 1 shows the circuit example. This shows the sequence to the special mode is to read the address '0' 100 times just after power on. The controller can read the memory characteristics register in the special mode. When the special register access has been completed, just read to the different address or write to any address will switch the normal mode. The contents of the register are, memory characteristics such as volatile/nonvolatile, cycle time, slew rate, etc. This is one of the examples.
