Automated battery life optimization for portable devices
A program disclosed that it will automatically optimize use of a battery in portable devices which have calendar applications.
Calendar or scheduling applications maintain all the information on meetings, such as subjects, meeting locations and how long they are. Since many meetings are scheduled on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, based on past behavior of the user at the specific meeting, it is possible to estimate how much battery capacity will be needed at the next same meeting and when the user will charge the battery and how much the battery will be charged before a next meeting. All the behavioral data will be maintained by this software separately. The main idea of this software is to combine two pieces of information to predict battery charge and discharge profile during the rest of the day as described in Figure 1. The predicted profile will be updated as time goes.
The software can take several actions based on the profile. The user can define his preference like priorities among meeting. and also define what the software should do. The software may suggest an additional power source such as an AC adapter or an additional battery pack for example before the meeting if it is predicted that the battery may be depleted before the next predicted charge event.
