Disclosed is a method for a multiport flag universal serial bus
(USB) type-A connector. Benefits include improved
demanding more functionality without allowing legacy input/output (I/O)
connectors to be removed, creating a requirement for space-saving I/O
connectors. Conventional multiport USB components are two horizontal USB ports
in one housing stacked on the rear I/O panel (see Figure 1).
The disclosed method
is a multiport USB connector with each port oriented perpendicular to the PCB
(see Figure 2). The disclosed method enables greater space utilization on the
rear I/O panel of computer systems. Two USB receptacles are located within the
same housing, one over the other, both oriented in the flag direction
(perpendicular to the printed circuit board).
