Conditioning Algorithm for Minimum Cycle Time

The cycle time required to burnish any heads in contact can be minimized by using feedback (MR resistance) with respect to the progress of the burnish operation. Additional control of the burnishing cycle can be realized for any heads that are in interference with the intelligent use of vacuum, spindle speed, or preload to reduce FH. The point of burnish completion is determined by the flow chart below that takes the interference signal into account and examines for the point of clearance by absolute MR resistance (MRR) values or MRR rate of change. Pressure, spindle speed, or preload adjustment can be used to fine tune the rate of burnishing, as measured by the interference signal.
