The layers in the active area of the sensor are: Al2O3/NiFeCr/NiFe/PtMn/CoFe/Ru/CoFe/Cu/CoFe/NiFe/Ru/Ta The layers in the passive track edge area (AP-TAB) location are: Al2O3/NiFeCr/NiFe/PtMn/CoFe/Ru/CoFe/Cu/CoFe/NiFe/Ru/CoPtCr/Ta/Rh/Ta CoFe/NiFe/Ru/CoPtCr stack in bold is the Antiparallel TAB (AP-TAB) which exists on each track edge. CoPtCr high Hc layer provides pinning to the AP-TAB. The purpose of the AP-TABs is to define the narrow magnetic read track by eliminating the side reading.
