A paper feeder employing a vacuum belt~sheetpickoff to remove individual sheets from the bottom sheet of a stack and transport the sheets therefrom. During operation of the device, the transport, having a greater volume of vacuum at the transport belt, will overcome the concentrated pickoff vacuum, thereby allowing paper to be fed continuously on the belt transport. As the paper progresses on the transport, a shutter closes off pickoff vacuum ports for a predetermined period to avoid overlap of paper being fed to the transport. The subject paper feeder concept provides for smooth, quiet operation with a minimum of moving parts.
