A device for varying the striking force of typewriter charac~ ter slugs in response to detection of varying thickness of paper sheets~ In the figure, recording paper 11 is held in typing position against platen 12 by feed roller 13, part of front feed roll arm l4~ Also attached to arm 14 is linkage l5~ As the thickness of the paper varies, roller 13 is dis~ placed; this displacement is amplified by linkage 15 and transmitted to potentiometer 16 which in turn controls the amount of current delivered to a print hammer solenoid (not shown) As thicker paper is detected, the value of current is increased to cause the hammer to strike with a greater forces With thinner paper, the value is proportionately decreased.
