Abstract

Electrostatographic toner impacted carrier particles may be reclaimed by employing ozone oxidation. Ozone is a powerful oxidant and reacts at high rates with hydrocarbon polymers such as those present in toner and carrier coating compositions. The processing equipment may consist of an ozone source or generator, a reaction chamber, and a con-verter for excess ozone. Advantages of the process include carrier reclamation without the use of an open flame, mod-erate temperature profiles, elimination of carbon deposits, faster start ups and shut down, and lower power consumption than with conventional methods.
