Abstract

An auger for cross-mixing developer in a xerographic machine is manufactured by an extrusion process. It is not possible to twist the metal as it comes out of the die since the material has to solidify first. The twisting into an auger shape is done when the extrusion is cold and under tension. While being twisted, the stress at the extremes of the section is very high. It has been found that by unreeling the part in the middle of the twisting process a sufficient pitch can be obtained,
