Abstract

The figure illustrates an optical system for a copier which provides reduction capability in a limited space. The components in solid line are shown in the 1:l mode while the dotted lines indicate the position of the components in a reduction mode (.647). In a 1:l mode, a document placed on platen 2 is imaged through lens 4, reflected from mirrors 6, 8 and is directed to the surface of photoconductive drum 10. Platen 2 is a flat platen tilted by an angleebetween 5 degrees and 15 degrees to normal. In the reduction mode, lens 4 is translated along the optical axis to the reduction (dotted) position. Mirrors 6 and 8 are simultaneously moved to the reduction position to adjust the total conjugate.
