Xerox Disclosure Journal

This disclosure relates to a release agent management system for use in a roll fuser apparatus. More specifically, the system relates to a wick 10 for applying release agent material to the surface of a fuser roll 12 having a silicone rubber outer surface. The wick is fabricated from any suitable material which can be impregnated with a quantity of the release agent, for example, Nomex (a trademark of E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Co.) or felt. The fuser roll 12 cooperates with a pressure roll 14 to form a nip 16 through which pass various sizes of copy sheets ranging in size, for example, from 11 to 14 inches. The length of the wick is 11 inches and it is adapted to be translated in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the rolls 12 and 14 when other than 11-inch copy sheets are used. When 11-inch copy sheets are used, the wick does not translate. By the foregoing, the adverse effects of swelling due to excessive oil penetration into the silicone rubber of the fuser roll can be minimized.
