The accompanying flow chart (Figures 1 - 6) illustrates a scheme for an interactive copier display console which reduces potential operator confusion and erroneous copy and function select. inputs. An alphanumeric information display area containing seven segment liquid crystal or light-emitting diode display elements is provided adjacent two display groups for displaying information to prompt operator interaction with a keyboard input to the console. While certain portions of the display groups are energized to prompt the operator to select a desired mode of copier operation, other unenergized portions remain blackened and accordingly do not confuse the operator. The display groups are actuated by a control circuit that includes a microprocessor which executes a program corresponding to the flow chart. In addition to responding to keyboard inputs, to further prompt the operator the microprocessor causes the copier to operate in accordance with the function selection information input by the operator.
