Book copying capability is enabled in combination with a magnetic reflex imaging member by providing a machine stop/go cycle. Exposure is performed with a scanning flash lamp while the imaging member is stopped and sandwiched between the book and a transparent support platen. The book is removed and the latent image processed by setting the process belt in motion.
