This disclosure relates to a roll fuser structure designed to counteract roll failure due to strain energy concentration at the core interface with the coating layer. To this end, a roll structure 10 is provided which comprises a metallic core 12 having a layer 14 of elastomeric material adhered thereto. The layer 14 preferably comprises silicone rubber which is differentially filled with A1 03. Thus, the rubber nearer the core contains a greater concentration of A1 0 3han the rubber nearer the outer surface of the layer 14 to thereby provide 3 Ayer which has a higher modulus nearer the core as well as increased thermal conductivity compared to the rubber nearer the surface of the layer.
