It is known that an A.C. permanent split capacitor synchronous motor, when energized after a stopped condition, may rotate in either direction depending on the geometry of pole alignment when stopped. In order to avoid the ambiguity of this operation mode in applications wherein unidirectional rotation is desired, it is disclosed that a one-way clutch mechanism be integrated with the synchronous motor.
