Xerox Disclosure Journal
The disclosure relates to roll fuser apparatus 10 and a release agent management system 12 therefor. The fuser comprises a pair of pressure engageable rolls 14 and 16, the former of which is heated and has a relatively thick silicone rubber outer layer 16. The fuser is adapted to accommodate various size copy sheets 18 and 20 resulting in a number of areas 22, 24, 26 of the silicone rubber undergoing physical changes due to the effects of sheet edge contact therewith. The release agent management system is designed to minimize the adverse effects caused by the sheet edges contacting the silicone rubber outer layer. To this end, the system comprises a dispenser 28, relatively thick wick member 30 and a relatively thin wick 32, the latter of which contacts the surface of the layer 16 which serves to dispense silicone oil onto the surface of the silicone rubber layer 16. The dispenser 28 is provided with a plurality of apertures 34 which are strategically located such that a quantity of the oil is introduced into the silicone rubber in the areas of sheet edge contact whereby the adverse effects noted are counteracted. Other apertures such as indicated at 36 are provided intermediate the aperture 34 as needed.
