BRUSH FOR CHARGING, DETACK, CLEANING AND/OR TRANSFER

This disclosure relates to a variable brush which can be utilized for the xerographic processes of charging, transfer, detack and cleaning. As illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawings, one embodiment of the brush comprises a conductive brush structure 10 including a plurality of brush segments 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 which in operation is mounted relative to a photoreceptor in accordance with the specific application for which the brush is employed. The brush segments are suitably insulated from one another by means of an insulating member 22 (Figure 1). The brush segments are connected via suitable conductors (Figure 2) and switches 24 and 26 to a grounded power supply 28, the segments 14 and 18 being connected thereto through a delay circuit 29 and the switch 26. As can be seen from Figure 2, the brush segments in conjunction with the switches are connected in such a manner that the effective length of the conductive brush can include only the segment 16 or the segment 16 plus the segments 14 and 18 by themselves or together with the segments 12 and 20.
