To provide normal force to a roller nip, it has been a practice in the past to use either weighted rollers or springs. Weights are costly and springs are inaccurate and require latching of the attachment point, i.e., if the springs are attached to a hinged baffle, that baffle would require fixing in some way. A simpler and less costly solution to the problem is provided in the figure by a magnetic normal force roller device 10 that includes a roller 11 molded out of a rigid or elastomeric material which is magnetized. The roller has an elastomeric surface 12 and is used in conjuction with another magnetized roller 13 of opposite polarity to apply a normal force to a sheet 20 as it passes between the rollers.
