In electrostatographic reproducing devices using dry toner as the marking material, toner emissions from the developer and cleaning stations can at least cause significant contamination to other operational parts of the machines. For example, contamination of the optics, corotrons, power supplies, can ultimately produce defects in copy quality and in fact, cause machine breakdown. This is particularly true with regard to the toner that escapes from the cleaner housing and the developer housing since those are the two sections in the machine wherein the toner emission is most likely to occur. The figures illustrate a bubble seal LO that can be used in connection with either the cleaner housing or the developer housing or both to provide a positive seal between the photoreceptor 12 and that housing 14. The bubble seal is constructed from a thin film of a plastic material such as Mylar or other shim stock which is compatible with prolonged contact with the material from which the photoreceptor drum is made. It provides a bubble type of seal which is 100% positive in that it contacts the drum thus preventing airborne toner from being drawn from out of the cleaner or the developer housing. Through the appropriate selection of film thickness and spacing between seal support and drum interference, very accurate force control of the seal may be had. The seal should be long enough so that the ends of the seal ride on the photoreceptor substrate thereby preventing any damage to the actual photoreceptor material. In addition, Figure 2 illustrates such a radial bubble seal 10 which will prevent carrier beads from being thrown out of the developer housing 14. This radial seal can be readily attached to developer housing 14 and should be spaced a distance "d" from the photoreceptor drum to provide a high impedance path for the carrier beads.
