Copiers with only one magnification usually have a slit at the image plane to compensate for non-uniformity of exposure due to the fall-off of image illumination. field angle. Many copiers now have three or more magnifications, so for optimum illumination at each magnification,, a different image plane slit would be needed. This would be difficult and expensive to incorporate. The present proposal is a for single, stationary object-space slit, tapered from registration to non-registration edge, which provides uniform exposure over the slit length for a broad range of magnifications.
