Abstract

A foldedinserter is typically used to process papers such as invoices output for example by a copier To achieve maximum throughput and efficiency, the foldedinserter and the invoice source are coupled on line to one another, the foldedinserter as will be understood folding and then inserting the folded invoice into envelopes for mailing to customers. However, if the invoices that are input to the folderlinserter are not flat but instead curled, the foldedinserter may jam, triggering a shutdown and perhaps damaging or tearing the invoice Further, curling may result in the invoices being skewed or misaligned so that even if successfully processed by the folderhnserter, the fold($ are not square but instead at an angle which can result in incomplete insertion of the invoice into the envelope. And, If control indicia is carried on the invoice to be scanned by a reader as the invoices pass to the folderlinserter, the misaligment may result in a failure of the reader to scan and detect some or all of the control indicia with consequent loss of control signals
