In a multi-color liquid ink copier, colors must be switched quickly. This requires that the liquid flowing to the development system must be stopped and drained therefrom rapidly. When liquid is required, it must be switched on promptly. A three-way solenoid valve (suction and pressure) or two two way valves may be used to achieve these results. A suction line and a pressurized supply line are connected to the the valve. When liquid developer is required, the supply valve is opened and the suction valve is closed. This permits liquid developer to flow into the development system. Upon switching, the supply valve is closed and the suction valve is opened. This removes liquid from the development system.
