The Figure shows an exposure zone 10 for a document fed between two pairs of drive rollers 12, 14. A document is fed into roller pair 12 and moved past exposure zone 10 where an incrementally scanned line is imaged through a lens array 16 onto a photoconductive image plane. The document is constrained between a platen 18 and a backup plate 20. Plate 20 is a white plastic extrusion of white polystyrene containing one percent T102 by weight. The plate is snapped into a recess of fixed arm 22 located in housing 24. The function of plate 20 is to constrain flexible original documents against the top of the platen and to provide a photoreceptor discharge in areas not covered by the document.
