A shared feedhead paper feeder consists of a set of vertically stacked paper trays, a vertical paper transport, lead screw assembly, and a common feeder assembly. A schematic of the basic configuration is shown in the figure. The paper trays have a rear paper guide to provide a rear registration point for the paper stock. The vertical transport moves paper sheets to the registration area using vacuum assisted adhesion on a belt. The feedhead assembly consists of a top vacuum corrugation feeder (TVCF, as described in Xerox U.S. Patent 4,887,805), air knife, drive motor, stack guide, and crosss-over bracket. The feedhead is mounted upon the cross-over bracket that moves vertically on the lead screw guide assembly to access and position the feeder with respect to the proper paper tray. The cross-over bracket is equipped with a baffle guide that promotes good contact between the paper sheet and the vertical vacuum transport. So that the shared feedhead may access a plurality of stationary vertically aligned paper trays, the feedhead is rotated upwards angularly and about the TVCF drive shaft and repositioned along the vertical transport before returning to its indexed level feed position atop a selected paper stack.
