On certain electronic reprographic systems, the operator has the flexibility to select an input document description with dimensions other than the standard ones (e.g. 8 1/2" x ll", 8 1/2" x 14", etc.). A document can be defined as having a length from 1 to 14.3 inches, and a width from 1 to 17 inches in incremental steps of one tenth of an inch. To better enhance user operability and friendliness, ruler type marks could be added to the platen surround starting at one inch and spaced at one half inch intervals. The lines could be thin with the one half inch markers being shorter than the one inch markers. An operator scanning in a document could then tell at a glance the dimensions of the input document.
