A recirculating document handler (RDH) that allows original documents to be of different or intermixed lengths, for example, eleven and fourteen inches, is disclosed. The RDH 1 comprises a conventional movable length guide 2 that is modified to incorporate openings for air jet streams 3 arising from an air manifold as shown in Figure 1 (side view). The air jet streams are sustained by a compressorhlower through air line 5 that may be modulated and pulsed with a solenoid value. The air streams 3 provide a discretely timed, low flow, low pressure force to the bottom edge of short original sheets, that is eleven inch originals, in the RDH that pushes short sheets into alignment with long sheets against a sheet separator wall 6 and beneath a set separator finger 7 perpendicular to the process direction 8. Initially, an operator must jog and stack the documents and align their top edge against sheet separator wall 6. The intermixed RDH provides greater ease of use and convenience for an operator.
