Most copiers or printers have a power saver mode which shuts off power to the fuser and/or other machine functions. Since the fuser requires significant amounts of power to stay ready to print, this power saver mode greatly reduces the electricity used by the machine. Most machines have a power saver mode that goes into effect after a preset time that is changeable in an NVM location. This time can be anywhere from a minute to several hours. Typically this period is set rather long to ensure that the copier is always in a ready to print mode. This time can be adjusted by entering NVM and changing the appropriate memory location. The present invention proposes to put a button to initiate power saver mode instantly by overriding the preset time window. This feature is useful for casual users using the machine in off peak hours or on weekends. For example a person is working late at night and must made some prints. Traditionally, they would leave and the machine would go into power saver mode in a preset time, in many cases over an hour. With the button, they could initiate power saver mode immediately after they have finished using the machine.
