Proposed is a method by which a key operator may enter customized messages to an electrophotographic printing machine. The messages may then be visually communicated to the machine users via the alphanumeric display or User Interface (UI). The accessible annotation allows the key operator to enter and store messages in Non Volatile Memory so as to display the machine status. Customized messages may include, for example: "Welcome to IDHI - Ready to Copy", "Stapling Now Enabled - Ready to Copy", and "Machine Down - Service Has Been Called".
