Ink jet printers are largely based around dye based inks. The inks are generally low in viscosity so problems arising from the colorant wicking into the paper structure significantly limts the printable substrate range. Solid ink jet devices where the ink is at a considerably higher viscosity when it reaches the paper delivers increased substrate tolerance. A method of increasing the viscosity of liquid inks, before being delivered to the paper would provide print quality benefits.
