Disclosed is a tool for checking heated fuser rolls for proper levels of release agent for use in, for example, electrostatographic printing machines and copiers, comprising a high temperature resistant tape material which is wrapped about a heated fuser roll to qualitatively determine the level of fuser roll release agent that is present on the roll as indicated by the inability of the tape to adhere to the heated roll. The tape check tool does not readily release from the heated roll when the release agent on the roll is insufficient to permit typical fuser roll stripping. The tape can be made of, for example, SCOTCH #361 Glass Cloth Tape, available from 3M Corporation. The tape check tool provides trained key operators or technical representatives the ability to readily determine or isolate the cause of mis-strips, for example, without the need to remove or replace the fuser roll prematurely for conventional diagnosis.
