Disclosed is a flexible piloting system which is added to the insertion surface of a dip coating insertion chuck. The flexible pilot is preferably made from a low friction, hard polymeric material so as to improve alignment of the chuck to a photoreceptor substrate. The flexible material must not shed particulates and must also be heat resistant. The flexible pilot promotes reliable insertion of the chuck into the substrate, especially thin nickel substrates. Furthermore, the pilot prevents sticking and stubbing that often causes dents, kinks, and other damage to substrates as well as equipment jams and downtime.
