Abstract
Disclosed is a process for minimizing upward temperature drift of inboard areas on a fuser roll not used during the electrophotographic printing of small documents. Two lamps are used. Both lamps dissipate most of their power over half their length. The lamps are oppositely located so that when full-width paper is fed both lamps run at equal power to generate uniform heat across the full fuser roll. As the paper width decreases, the lamp with most of its power at the rear is run at lower power preventing the non-registration end of the fuser roll from becoming excessively hot. Control circuitry checks the paper size and orientation by use of software lookup tables to progressively reduce lamp power as the paper width decreases.
